On a phone or tablet the Game Boy buttons are on screen (hold it upright or sideways; slide your thumb on the D-pad). Tip: "Add to Home Screen" plays it full screen. Running needs the Running Shoes from Pewter City.
- Get spotted like by a trainer: if another player looks at you, or you look at them, while they face you or stand sideways, you battle. Sneaking up behind someone doesn't count. Walking into them starts a battle too, even in tall grass. No running away!
- Pokémon Centers, Poké Marts, the Celadon Dept. Store and the Pallet Town houses are safe: no battles. Face someone there and press A to trade.
- Your Pokémon earn EXP, a quarter less than from a trainer.
- Lose and you black out and hand the winner a quarter of your money.
- Visit the Stylist in any Pokémon Center to change your colors. Everyone sees your look.
